Despite all of the chaos going on around us due to COVID-19, contractors are able to comply with social distancing recommendations and are continuing to make good progress on the construction of the new high school and career academy, Greene County school superintendent Tim Christensen reported last week.
Classrooms and work areas in the career academy are being painted at this time and a crew will begin installing casework in the next two weeks.
Crews expect to complete HVAC and plumbing in the academic wing in the next two weeks. Drywall will also be completed and painting of classrooms will begin.
The concrete in the gym has been poured and work is now beginning on ductwork and the sprinkler system. Decking is being finished in the music room areas.
Concrete floors will be poured for the weight room and music rooms in the next two weeks. A
significant amount of concrete has been poured on site including the drive that goes around the building.
The interior photos were taken by school staff April 10. The drone photo was taken March 30.
The school board awarded the bid at its Feb. 15 meeting for asbestos removal at the current high school. That work will begin earlier than planned since the building is now closed to students and staff for the remainder of the regular school year. When the building reopens as a school it will be home for students in grades 5-8 and their teachers.
